I prefer Silvia, probably because I've never met one. Sylvia is so dated, it seems to suit the kind of ferocious women in Far Side cartoons, with bouffant hairdos and glasses shaped like tropical butterflies. Silvia seems lighter ... more silvery, perhaps? In general, it's like Belinda in that I wish I liked it more than I do.

I like it and wish there were a few little Silvias running around. I like Silvia for its silvery feel but Sylvia is lovely too, and would possibly be less likely to be misspelled.

I prefer the Sylvia spelling, and I like the name, though not as much as I like Sylvie. Sylvia is similar in sound and feel to Sophia, but not as thoroughly trampled by the masses. I'd call it a good name, overall.

I don't mind it. For me it still holds a very old-lady image.
I prefer the spelling Sylvia because Silvia reminds me of saliva.
Earlier this year I met a toddler named Sylvie, I like Sylvie more than Sylvia because it feels fresher and prettier. :)

Being Swedish, Silvia is much too synonymous with Queen Silvia of Sweden for me. I definitely prefer Sylvia, for aesthetic reasons as well.

I think Sylvia is a much more attractive spelling. It's a nice name, not one I'd ever want to use or have for myself, but it's pleasant.
