Dwight
I work with a young Dwight. Yes, somebody twenty-something-odd years ago decided to name their baby Dwight. What do you think of Dwight? Too associated with Eisenhower?

Dwight strikes me as a cool name.

The Office!I don't think of Eisenhower first off, I think of The Office. Dwight was the geeky, serious, overbearing coworker. Thats what I think about. Even if I didn't think of that character I would still think Dwight is a pretty dorky name. I thought so before the character. So I think the name fit him really well.

Has he got Dwight stuff? sowwy... :-PThere was a Dwight in my elementary school, so I don't associate it with Eisenhower - it's just a name. But that Dwight was nerdy, so I think the name is kind of nerdy. Not in a bad way, though. Just a little bit midcentury. Like Darren. The unfamiliarish Dw- sound is striking, but doesn't really appeal to me because of the Dr / Dw similarity.

I know a lot of Dwights. It's common enough where I live, I suppose. I hate it. Sounds like blight and the dw sound is ugly. I don't immediately think of Eisenhower because of too many personal associations.

I also have had an encounter with a nineteen year old named Dwight and at this point it's mostly Boomers on up into the age scale and political buffs who would think of Eisenhower. Not a bad name although Ike seems like an aberrant nickname.

I love Dwight.Curse "The Office" for using it!

I associate it less with Eisenhower and more with Dwight Schrute from The Office (American version). I can't think of anything else, in fact. I'd never use it. I dislike the sound of it anyway.

Too associated with the NBA star (Dwight Howard) for me. But I do like it. I also like Dwayne, but an NBA superstar has that as well...not too many other Dw- choices. :)

When it comes to Dwayne I always think of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson first tbh. I think he's an awesome association; he's such a great and funny guy. I got to meet him a few times and he always remembered me and would be really friendly and personable. Plus he's good-looking and does fun movies. But, tbh, before him Dwayne was a goofy hillbilly name to me lol And in school whenever we did the fake baby projects (eggs, dolls, flour, etc, we did them all it feels like), I'd name the baby Dwayne cause I thought it was funny haha Dwight has a dorkiness to it in the same way that kinda puts me off, and Rainn Wilson's Dwight on The Office didn't help!

My second association would probably be Haywood Nelson's character in What's Happening!!! (show from the 70s). That "Duane" is also goofy, but I love the character, so that's a good association, too. :)

I think of "The Office" before I think of Eisenhower.I don't have any strong feelings about it, but I'm not crazy about the Dw- sound. It's passable.

I suspected there would be other associations that younger people would make rather than the Eisenhower association. I almost put into my OP "or do younger people even know who Eisenhower is?", which I would have meant mainly jokingly, not literally. Meaning that there would be stronger associations of which I'm not aware. As for "The Office", I'm not totally unaware of it, as my former landlady was a fan of the show and I watched it with her a few times. I really hated it, though, and none of the character names have stuck in my head.

I liked the first five seasons, then it started to go downhill. Dwight was the creepy guy with glasses who was always on a power trip, trying to fire people even though he didn't have the authority.
