Maybe it's a southern thing? Like, baseball/softball is popular, so "Louisville slugger" is a well-known brand, coming from a company based in Louisville, KY (I know some people from Kentucky who get annoyed when Louisville is pronounced Loo-is-ville)...and/or there's possibly more French influence here? I dunno.That's the only reason I'd prefer Lewis over Louis (because where I live it'd get tedious correcting people on a day-to-day basis).
