Darian
Just saw a female teenage contestant on American Idol named Darian. BtN lists it as a possibly elaborated form of Darren but it sounds more like a variant of Daria or Dorian to me. Either way I think it's a cool modern-sounding name.WDYT?

I went to school with a girl named Darian. I remember that while she liked her name, every teacher we had thought she was a boy when taking attendance for the first time.

I remember her. I also watch AI (: I've heard of the name before so it's nothing new to me. I've known a few of them myself. I like Darian but only for a boy, not for a girl.

I went to high school with a girl named Darian, though she was a couple years older than me. I also know of a female Darian who's in her early twenties.
It's not bad, though a bit too ambisexual for my taste. I like Daria better, but pronounce it DARE-ee-a, rather than like the TV character DAHr-ee-a.
I also know a Dara (rhymes with Sarah) who is probably fifty.

I've only known one and she is also a female around 20 years of age. I think the spelling is the same. What do I think? Darian reminds me too much of Darren to be truly attractive as a female name, however, I will say that the name truly suits the person I know. I agree with you that this name does have a modern sound.
