Lyle
I've been watching episodes of the old "Carol Burnett Show" and thus have been reminded of the existence of Lyle Waggoner. I've never personally known anyone named Lyle and I see that it was never very popular. Yet its sound is quite close to that of Kyle, which I personally can't stand but which has its fans. WDYTO Lyle?

I don't like Kyle or Lyle. I really detest the sound of both, that almost but not quite two syllables thing. Yuck.

Not a big fan of Lyle.

The only one I've ever met with the name is one of my family members and he's ruined the name for me. Despite the negatives for me, I don't think it's a bad name. I do think the lie part will be an issue for some people.

I like Lyle because the only one I’ve known is kind, glamorous, and interesting. Great associations. I love the name Lyall. It gives some great substance and the addition of the theorized “wolf” meaning is appealing to me.

I like Lyall! Wow, haha. Somehow it seems warmer than Lyle, but they're the same...

Yes, it does seem warmer! I don’t know how to describe it well, but I usually feel the spellings of things as I’m saying them. Words very much contain their letters to me — I see them in my brain sort of as I’m saying them. So Lyall feels warmer and more substantial than Lyle. Isabelle -feels- longer and more frilly than the spare, elegant Isabel. Niamh has a whole feeling of its own that Neve completely lacks.... etc.

Lyle sounds to much like someone just combined the sounds of lie and Kyle because I have only heard Kyle used as a name in real life. It isn't a bad name, just not one I personally like.

Too much L! I don't know how to say it without sounding sort of contemptuous of it. (I like Kyle even less, though... not sure what is is with that name. I've only known one Kyle, and have perfectly fine associations of him. Kyle just sounds, I don't know, sort of dumb, brutish, and juvenile. Lyle feels more sophisticated. But it's still horrible to say. I think the 'le' ending just doesn't do any sound any favors.)

I imagine Lyle as tall, thin, pale, intellectual, and smarmy. It makes me think of pale aqua and argyle. Not necessarily bad things but very specific.Somehow, I haven't met a Kyle since elementary school; it's not terrible imo, but I'm not sure I'd think it ages well. It almost seems like a dated cross of Kai and Cole to me.Lyle is preppier than Kyle, less trendy. I like Kai more than either of them. And I'd prefer Lysander or Carlisle to Lyle.

Look up Lyle Lovett.

Is Lyle Lovett physically that different from the image Noel has, though?I don't think he looks "intellectual and smarmy", but he always looked tall, thin, and pale, to me.

No, which is why it's hilarious to me.

Oh, I thought you were saying Lyle Lovett went against that type. My bad. :P

I was interrupted, had planned on writing more

I guess another way to put it would be "nerdy charming" (that, or trying to be). I don't know if that fits Lyle Lovett or not, though.

Kinda. He really does have a nerdy charm to him. Your description is really close to him, which is pretty cool.

I know one man named Lyle. He is a very nice, dependable gentleman that works in the healthcare field and is great with animals. Although I like the person, I am not overly fond of the name. I tend to dislike similar names like Layla, Lila, Leela, and Lola.

I love Lyle, probably because I'm a big fan of Lyle Lovett.

I don’t mind Kyle, but hate Lyle. It sounds slimy and gross. And I’m not sure why the one letter makes it so different, but it makes me shudder.
Lyle is a creepy old man who has lots of nasty secrets and licks his lips a lot.
