My sister is Amber. I like it, but i'm biased. My Mum thought she was being really original but turns out there were two other Amber's in her kindy class hahaMy sister is Amber Jane (Often use diminutive 'Bambi' or just 'Bam'), other combos I like are:
Amber Ffion
Amber Hazel
Amber Juniper
Amber Judith
Amber Kaia
Amber Niamh
Amber Riley

To be honest, I don't really like Amber - it sounds very 1980s, and a bit too childish for my tastes. However, if I had to use it, here are some combos I might consider:
Amber Bernadette
Amber Camellia
Amber Elizabeth
Amber Isabelle
Amber Meredith
I prefer the similar Ambrosia to Amber, though I do think it's a bit over the top.

I like Amber. The name, and the stone. However, completely unbeknownst to me, Amber has somehow developed the connotation of trashiness - like a female Chad. So this is a risk you'd run into when using the name.

I've always really liked the name Amber to be honest. I know it has a bit of a stereotype attached to it, but I still like it. Amber Rose has always been a combo I like, even though Rose is somewhat filler. Amber Jane, Amber Kate, Amber Elizabeth, Amber Evelyn, Amber Shae, Amber Gwyneth, Amber Zoe, Amber Madeleine, Amber Mae, Amber Miriam, Amber Mary and Amber Millie.

It's a very pretty meaning. I don't think I'd use it personally (dated and I have weird personal connotations with it) but I'd really enjoy seeing it as a middle name, that'd be unexpected. "Mb" is a nice sound.

If you could strip off all the 80's connotations, I'd love it. As it is, I like it but it's more of a GP / I like it in an alternate universe where it was never trendy. Amber Rose
Amber Shay
Amber Sienna
Amber Sierra
Amber Kierra
Amber Winona
Amber Philippa
Amber Jane
Amber Bree
Amber Tamsin
Amber Sage
Amber Olwen
Amber ElaineETA: a similar name I prefer is Ember

Oh, all you circa 1975 people, why did you have to be such jerks and decide that you all loved Amber? You made it into a bimbo cheerleader name. Perfect example of popularity just ruining a name. I feel that Jade is similar and these days I prefer it, although I wouldn't have before Amber became popular. Amber is quite beautiful. But so is Jade.

I also prefer Jade, but I wouldn't consider them similar apart from the fact that they're gemstone names. I'd classify Amber as closed, warm, and earthy and Jade as open, cool, and watery.

I think Amber is a beautiful name. I'd use it, and I wouldn't have minded having the name myself. It goes nicely in either slot but I think it's nicest in the fn.
