Most people in US would pronounce it like "DUHG-less". I'm not sure about elsewhere.

I think it sounds kind of tweedy.My first associations were trees (Douglas firs) and "dark water", which makes it pleasant to me...

It's just very unattractive in sound and look. And it demands a nn, but Doug is just as ugly. Dugly.
