Overwhelming dated and too tied to a certain individual. Bland and boring.

Better than Merle, but not good.

It's...
-much nicer sounding than Beryl
-the same age and level of pleasant as Cheryl
-not as fun to say as Merle

Aha, there's one of those names that I like, that're in a style I see as a forerunner to the style of Aerolynn (a thread above this one).I love it and don't associate it with Streep at all. It doesn't suit Streep. It's not even her real name!I don't even associate it with Meryl Davis, very much - mostly I'm just grateful to her for being a little famous and counteracting the Streep association with her name.Meryl sounds just like the surname Merrill in my accent. If not for that, I'd probably think it was too dated a style - too much like Cheryl.I think if I were considering using it, I'd go with spelling it Merel. To get rid of the Cheryl and Streep associations.

Though I love Meryl Streep to bits, I'm not sure about the name itself. It's not bad but it's a little too old-fashioned.
