I like this name on a girl.

I think it’s fine on a girl. I’ve heard it on a girl before I knew it was a boy name.

Don't like it for either, especially agirl

I don't love it but I don't hate it. Like most surnames turned first names, if I met a female Merritt I'd assume it were a family name.

It's not my style, but I actually like it anyway. I think it's such a light and pretty sound. It doesn't seem pretentious to me, but I've known quite a few girls/women named Merritt.

Not pretentious, but all "Merr" surnames give off a creepy unhealthy vibe to me, whether for boys or girls, Merryn, Merrin, Merrick, Merritt. Maybe it's just because of "The Exorcist", but there's no changing it. And you probably know that I hate surnames on girls anyway.
