Frankie
What do you think of Frankie for a full name on a girl?

This isn't the type of name I usually would like much. However, a long time ago I met my best friend's grandma named Frankie and fell in love.

Really can't understand why it's so popular. I don't think it's remotely cute.
Was also one of the reasons why I was never going to use Frances, because of either Frannie or Frankie as a nickname.

...or Fanny :o

It’s alright as a nickname, but very immature as a full name.

This is mine and my husband's second pick for a daughter. His brother and father are Frank (and more generations past too, I think) but neither of us like Frank on a boy or any longer forms of Frankie for either gender: Francis, Frances, Francesca, Franka etcBeing from England where Frankie is in the Top 65 for a boy and the Top 140 for a girl, I see it as another modern nickname-turn-fullname, much like my own. And I don't have a problem with that.I think it packs a lot of spunk and is cute but I can still see it on an adult which I sometimes can't with other nickname names.

I like it. I think it’s cute and feisty. Also I much prefer it on a girl.

Frankie on a girl is ugly. It's an ugly name for a guy too. I know someone who named her daughter Frankie after her father and grandfather.

I think it is nice to give a child the option to go by a more adult name when they are older. If they don’t, that’s totally okay but she may like to have a name to go by professionally at least. I think Francesca is pretty and Frankie is a really cute nn.

I love it as a nickname for Francesca, but I hate it as a given name.

UGH. I hate Frank on a boy as it is. It makes me think of unappetizing boiled hot dogs. And I don't like boy nicknames on girls, don't like Bobbie, Billie, etc. But being that I hate the masculine Frank so much, that makes Frankie worse than the others.

I agree

It sounds cheap and hard-drinking. It sounds that way on a boy too. Frankie hangs around on the corner with his buddy Vinnie, waiting for a chance to start trouble.

Love the imageYes, Frankie on a guy does make me think of "Italian Greaser" (so does Vinnie / Vinny).

I dislike it as a nn for a girl, and totally deplore it as a full name.

As a full, legal name, I think it is too juvenile and flippant to put on a birth certificate. (I feel the same way about Katie, Annie, Ricky, etc.) That said, I love it as a nickname for Francesca (as well as Frances).

I think it sounds very childish, but also jagged - the nk sounds is harsh and unpleasant. I do like both Frances and Francesca, though.

I think Francesca is so beautiful it's a shame not to use it with Frankie as a NN.

Cute enough but I like Franny or just Fran better assuming Frankie could be a nn for Frances or Francesca. Not my style but I knew a guy who loved Frankie for a full girl's first name. Too much like Cranky for me.
