Alcyone and Halcyone
(answer as many of these questions as you want)-WDYT? Do you like one better than the other or have different associations?-Is it actually a correct variant to use a "s" sound for the C in English, or is it supposed to sound like "k" because it's Greek? Is the Y ever like "ee" or is it always "ai"? The BtN and Wikipedia for Alcyone both say ai or ie, but the word halcyon has a "see" sound. -Is the meaning of Halcyone really "sea kingfisher" since it's a combination of kingfisher and salt/sea?-What about Alkyone and Halkyone?-Have you ever met one (Alcyone, Alkyone, Halcyone, or Halkyone)? -If you had to be named one of these variants, what nickname would you have? -Combos with any of the variants as a first or middle name?

I’ve been thinking about Halcyone a lot lately. Well the word halcyon, and then naturally the name too. Peaceful, tranquil. Like a sunset on the horizon at sea. I like the Halcyon / Halcyone variants best. Alcyone looks a bit like a creative spelling of Alison. When I see it written, or in my head or something, it seems too much, too difficult, unusable. But if I encountered it in real life I’m sure it would be fine. It is beautiful.Keen to know about k/c pronunciation too...Halcyon Irene
Halcyon Iris
Halcyon Vesta
Halcyon Cassandra

I like them both pretty equally. I don’t know if I would call them GPs, but I do like them.I’ve always pronounced them with a "k", since that’s technically the correct way and it isn’t hard for English-speakers. The Y is pronounced like "ee" very often in Greek, actually - in fact, Alcyone/Alkyone and Halcyone/Halkyone are pronounced in Greek as "ahl-key-O-nee" (roughly). For nicknames, I would use Hallie for Halcyone and Allie for Alcyone. Kinda boring, I know.Halcyone Odette
Halcyone Lucille
Halcyone Louise
Halcyone CamilleAlcyone Elise
Alcyone Colette
Alcyone Solène
Alcyone Estelle
Alcyone Celeste(I’m not sure why I paired them with French names but I felt like they fit well)
