Lunetta and Julina
What do you think of Lunetta and Julina? I came across these names while tracking down one of the branches in my family tree: they belonged to two Baltic German sisters (born in the mid-1600's) whose full names were Dorothea Lunetta and Sophia Julina.Formerly known as Remora L.

Neither names are really my style.Lunetta feels really frumpy - I prefer Luned or Lunette.
Julina isn’t as frumpy but still nms. I prefer Julienne.

I would probably never really think about either name otherwise, but would be stoked to find them in a family tree! Very cool.

Julian is ok

I like them, but there are other names I like better. Lunetta does remind me of "lunettes" and it's also hard for me to like "etta" names in general. But I do like Lunete and Lunessa.Julina is knms but it's nice that it isn't dated like Julie, predictable like Julia, almost OTT like Juliet, or fully OTT like Juliette. The awkward thing about Julina is that I expect it to be longer like Juliana, but I like that Julina doesn't have "Julie" in it like Juliana does. That makes it sound more like Jules, Julian, July, etc. and less like "Julie or a long form of Julie".

Aw, I really like them! Lunetta in particular appeals to me. Dorothea Lunetta is gorgeous.

"lunettes" are "glasses" in French and Lunetta just reminds me of the word. It isn't appealing and neither is Julina. They both seem made up. As if you liked Luna and Julia but desperately wanted something less common.Instead I'd suggest names that don't seem so contrived such as Juliet, Juliette, Lyra, Lana or Juliana. However, the names aren't awful. So if you like them, go for them :)

I agree. They look like nicknames, or pets’ names.

I'm not planning to use these names in real life: I was simply intrigued by these names and wanted to know others' opinions about them. :) (I do prefer Juliana to Julina: the former also appears in my family tree.)

Oh even if you were, I think they are perfectly fine. Just not really to my taste.

Lyra and Lana sound no less contrived to me.

I guess everyone is different. Lana has been used for ages in many different cultures and Lyra is related to astronomy. To me they carry much more weight and meaning than Lunetta.

Pretty. But I don't think I could see or hear Lunetta without thinking of Lunette the clown on the Big Comfy Couch.
