Jennet
WDYT of Jennet (JEN-et)? It's the name of the heroine in the Scottish story Tam Lin (or one of the versions of the name; it seems there are a dozen versions of the tale). I used the name Jennet mn Lynn for a character; not sure I'd use it for a kid, ppl might mistake it for Janet, I name I don't like.

I like it because, as you say, I don't care for Janet. I think Jennet is a nice, fresh alternative to Jennifer. I personally would give it a spunkier mn than Lynn. What about:Jennet Skye
Jennet Rain
Jennet Faye
Jennet Jacinda (she might end up JJ, though)
Jennet Janelle (ditto)
Jennet Guinevere
Jennet Belinda
Jennet Larissa
Jennet Liberty
Jennet AramintaJust a few that came to mind, certainly many other choices that might suit you better. Also I thought you might find this interesting:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JennetI do NOT find this information to be detrimental to using the name.~Lillian~

doens't Jennet meana young horse (or some other kind of animal)?
to me it wouldbe kind of like naming a kid (or characer) Foal. but if it's just a character, and you really like the name, go for it. Dreams are necessary to life.

I've never heard of Jennet or Tam Lin before. Is Tam Lin a traditional folk tale? My initial reaction is: everyone will assume her name is Janet or Jeanette. I'd get tired of correcting people all the time if it were my name. Sorry.

http://www.rambles.net/yolen_tamlin.htmlHere you go. And I don't think I'd give a daughter of mine the name, it's just for a character.
