Barney
I really like the name Barney.1) Do you think it is better as a nickname?
2) If so, for Barnaby or Barnabas?
3) Do you think of the dinosaur? The Flintstones?
4) Do you like the dinosaur? I love dinosaurs but Barney the dinosaur creeps me out for some reason. It's his...motionless face, I guess.

1. I guess
2. I’m going with Barnabas, but I hate them both
3. Yes, and yes. Also How I Met Your Mother
4. I’m honestly neutral to the character. I watched him as a kid, but he’s nothing I feel like revisited.

Not a fan. I relate the name to several things, including the dinosaur and the Flintstones. Also a really odd person I knew years ago. None of those are things that lead me to much like the name on a person in 2021. Maybe if I had a better frame of reference I could warm up to it.

No, I do not like Barney, or any names it might be a nn for. Yes, I do think of the dinosaur and the Flintstones, and it also sounds like a dog or a big, loud, stupid man.
No, I do not like Barney the Dinosaur; his voice sounds gross.

I love Barney! I honestly don't think it needs to be a nickname, it has enough history as a name-name to stand on its own, but I do like Barnaby. If I had a Barney, he'd just be Barney, but Barnaby and Barnabas would be the nicknames! Flip it around.I sort of think of the Flintstones, but never the dinosaur. I think maybe because Barney was a bit "after" my time. I babysat lots of Barney-watchers but never saw much myself. I think I was juuuust out of the demographic when the dinosaur became a thing. I don't really care about the dinosaur, although dinosaurs in general are a good thing!

Barney, as the slang term for a fight or violent argument, doesn't please me.I like Barnaby very much! I find Barnabas too heavy. And I don't think about dinosaurs or Flintstones at all.

I named my second son Barnabas. And no, I don't think of the Flintstones or a dinosaur every time I see him ;-) I'm not very familiar with Barney the dinosaur, because I'm not American, but I've seen images of him.
We try to avoid the nickname Barney because I don't like it very much, but I also don't hate it. For now we use his middle name, Húni, as a nickname. That's more of a family nickname though, not something we'd like everyone to call him. When other people are around, people who aren't family or close friends, he goes by his full first name. If one day our son decides he wants to go by Barney, then that's what I'll call him. It's kind of cute.

Barney is my childhood, I remember they used to randomly play him on tv in the middle of the night. Barney I don’t really like as a name, but more of nostalgia. I don’t really think the namesake would be a good thing to hold in all honesty. Not that it’s a bad thing, but overall likely best as a middle name.
