I came across this nickname option for Naomi quite by accident, and I think I might love it! I was always kind of lukewarm about Naomi before - it was ok, but nothing special. But finding Omie changes my perception of it. It's so hokey and down-home.

I think it's cute.
It vaguely reminds me of a totally unrelated name, Omid. And names like Ori, Opie, Obi. And as someone else said, Oma, which gives it a bit of an old soul vibe, like Nan has to me.
Naomi seems lowkey pleasant to me yet is not a fav.
I also coincidentally like Appalachian murder ballads.

Omie for Naomi is cute. I like it.

There's a somewhat well-known Appalachian murder ballad called Omie Wise about a real-life case from the 1800's where a pregnant woman was murdered by her lover. Whether that's a bad association depends on how much you like Appalachian murder ballads.

As long as Omie never moves to South Africa, it'd be fine! But, the Afrikaans word for Uncle is Oom and its diminutive is Omie. With that exact spelling, though a different sound - the double-o in oom sounds like a speeded-up Oo-er, silent r, and the o in omie is the same; so, OO-er-me. Which might cause a few stifled giggles ...

I prefer Naomi in full. Omie seems very forced to me. Like trying too hard to find a nickname for a name that does not readily lend itself to one. But I am not the hugest fan of nicknames anyway.
