I knew a Marjorie whose nn was Muffy. She was the eldest of four children, and Muffy was the closest her siblings could get to Marjorie when they were little. And it stuck!

Indeed. It was the first place I came across Francine, Nadine, Prunella, Fern, Suellen... tbh the ones with "normal" names of the generation they would have been kind of stuck out as a result like Morgan

If I had to choose myself, I would say it's for Magdalena, which is the Spanish word for "muffin". It could work! Maybe. Also maybe this could work for Martha.

I guess it could be a nn for Mary or maybe Margaret, but I think it's one of those nns that is just baby talk and can end up pinned on anyone.

I love the show Arthur growing and still to this day. The character Muffy's full name is Mary Alice in the season 1 episode.
