I'm starting to like the name Mercedes, but all i can think of is, Mercedes Colby sister of Schapelle Colby, which is not a good association. Other than that i like the name. Wdyt? Thanks.

I know a Mercedes. I grew up with her in the same class. We called her "Sadie" in school. Its an Awesome name.

I've always loved the name Mercedes. I grew up watching old films and Mercedes McCambridge ("All the King's Men") was the first time I ran across the name as a name of a person. Mercedes Ruhl (sp?) is a more contemporary actress with the name.

I met a Maria Mercedes who goes by her mn. I smile to myself when I meet her thinking how beautiful her name is.

I don't know this Corby/Colby person. It can be difficult to disassociate a bad influence with a name, but it can be done. When Ms. Marcos became infamous in the 80's I consciously made myself not start to hate an otherwise gorgeous name like Imelda. Happily, it worked for me.

It was a female name before it became the name of a car

Personally I met the name before I knew of the car (Mercedes in "The Count of Monte Cristo". The car was named after a woman, not the other way around.

It's ok, i know a called called Mercedes she's 14 but nobody ever calls her by that she's always know as Sadie, Which really fits her

Mercedes is quite nice, just don't use the nickname Mercy, I met a cute blonde little girl I babysat named Mercedes and they ruined the nice name by calling her mercy....what kind of nn is that? Try to use Mer or Cedes or Cede or something....Marcy? Just don't use mercy!!!!!
