I like Joanna better than Gianna. I think Gianna is part of the general -iana/-ianna thing that people have liked for a bit.

Not a massive fan of either. Gianna feels nicknamey in Italian. I’m guessing it’s becoming popular in the US because people want to honor Italian roots?

I far prefer Joanna. It's brighter and livelier than Joan, and a whole lot nicer than dated Joanne. Gianna seems to have pronunciation issues built in, certainly where I live, and I'd need a very good reason to even consider it.

I like both. Gianna is energetic and gregarious, while Joanna is studious and subdued. Gianna surged in popularity due to the death of Gianna Bryant, Kobe Bryant's daughter.
