Aya
What do you think about the name Aya? Why this name is so popular in France and Japan and other countries?

I know an Aya and her parents are from Tunisia. It's also an arabic name. There are a lot of arabic speaking (or descending) people in France and I think that's why it is popular.

Aya is quite nice, but is rather boring. I'd prefer Ayaka.

At first glance, I like it. It is simple, pretty, and not overdone.

I don't know why it's catching on in France and "other countries" as you say. Maybe there's a popular brand with that name or an in increase in people of Japanese ancestry living there? Or using their traditional names?

However, short/two syllable names for girls are trending in Japan, or they were in the last few years: Yui, Kaho, Saki, Kanon, Sana, Miu, Rio, Karen, etc. I hope this answers your question.
