I actually prefer Shannon for a boy. This isn't just because of the name itself (seeming more masculine and boyish, both in appearance and sound in my opinion) but also the fact that I don't have any positive associations with any female Shannon's, and I've know plenty of them. It conjured up some certain and unpleasant images as a result of that. I've know a few male Shannon's. All of who were ok (no strong opinion of them, unlike the many females with this name that I've came across) and the name worked just fine for them.

I've always loved the name Shannon as a boys name, but I'm not sure how well it works 'in the real world'. But Shannon hasn't been In the top 1000 for over 15 years (for either gender), so I think (hope) it can work!

To me the name is feminine. I just can’t imagine it on a boy.

The male Shannon I knew made it work...oddly he was very similar in temperament to the female Shannon I knew.

I can't see it. Maybe it is because of Shannon's similarity with Sharon or because the Shannon associations that I have are all female, but I just can't imagine a boy named like this.
