Love Opal, and I can see Opaline growing on me.

Opal is nice, I don't really like it, but I can see why other people do.
Opaline is too frilly.

I love opals as gemstones. But where I live, the sound is too close to a local (Afrikaans) word that translates as 'buddy'. Opaline sounds like a factory-made imitation.

Opals are sparkly, sumptuous, sorrowful. This association makes me like Opal - which is by no means an attractive sound - slightly more. Opaline is sillier, heavier, more like an adjective.

Love them both, but Opal has s sweet simplicity to it that I like just a bit better. Sometimes Opaline would work better for flow or in a sibset, though.

Opal is quite dated, but okay.
Opaline on the other hand just reminds me of Ovaltine.

I hadn't thought about Ovaltine in that context; but people name their children Milo without a second thought, so why not?

Lol yeah, that's why I dislike Milo as well
