Rio

Should Rio be used on a boy or girl? How do you picture someone named Rio? What other names fit into the same catagory as Rio? Opinions?

I have a category I call "terrestrial" male namesIt includes Rio, Ridge, Canyon, Forest and Stone. I'm sure there are others that could be included here, but these are my personal choices.I prefer River for a girl, but it could be included on this list if you like, though that seems redundant to me since Rio means River.~Lillian~

I love Rio, Forest, and Ridge.
** I think Ridge should be put into the database

Rio de JaneiroThat's all I can think of. It's OK as a name, but I would definitely use it for a boy over a girl.

I would definitely think of it as a boy's name. I would picture someone tan, short and friendly. :-) I think that most Spanish names would sound good with it.

I could only really see it used on a boy I think it's much too masculine on a girl. I don't know any Rio's so the only I can only really think of the England football player Rio Ferdinand.

I like it on both. It seems more male to me, because of the 'o' ending. But I used to know a little girl named Rio and it was great on her. Plus there's the Duran Duran song, "her name is Rio and she dances on the sand."I have it on my short list of boy names and my long list of girl names.
