Johann or Joachim?
Which do you prefer, Johann or Joachim? Johann would be YO-hann, and Joachim would be JO-ah-kim. I've had both names on my mind as of late (and I really like both, personally), and so I'm curious as to which gets the warmer welcome here.Array

Hi there! I think of Joachim as being very Jewish, so if you aren't, to me it would seem a bit odd... Also, I don't pronounce it JO-ah-kim. Could be I'm saying it wrong, though.... Joaquin and Jochen are both forms of it though and they aren't pronuonced anywhere near that. Maybe you'd consider Jochen, though? It's the German form of Joachim and is pronounced YO-hen, the "h" being a cross between the 'h' and 'k' sounds. So it sounds kind of like a combination of Johann and Joachim... BTW I do like Joachim :o) If you're sticking with Joachim and not Jochen or Joaquin (which I also like a whole lot and pronounce wah-KEEN), then I vote for Johann though. Or have you considered Johannes (yo-HAHN-ess)? It's kind of a more modern form of Johann. I know a ton of Johanneses in Austria but all the Johanns are older.

Pronunciation of Joachim...How do you say Joachim, then? (Out of curiosity.) I've always said JO-ah-kim--I'm pretty sure it's the standard pronunciation in the USA, or at least in the Catholic churches. (We do the whole "Saints Ann and Joachim, pray for us" thing before baptisms. When I was little, I had no clue that was what we were saying--it always sounded like "Saint San Amjoakin" to me.)I'm afraid I have no love at all for Joaquin--I like how it looks but I hate its pronunciation. I think Jochen is cool, though. Can't bring myself to love Johannes, though. There's something I just find awesome about the name Johann. :)Array

Joachim's pronunciationI pronounce this name wa-KEEM. I live in the USA, and I NEVER have heard it pronounced JO-ah-kim. LOL. It just sounds silly to me. However... my sister just got married at St. Joachim Church, and they call it JO-kim or JO-ah-kim. So okay, I've heard it pronounced that way once, and it was three weeks ago. LOL. I like the wa-KEEM pron. better, but I just think that's because that's what I'm used to.So... Johann would be my favorite out of the two.*reyanna*
