Edmond
Not Edmund, but Edmond. It has been stuck in my head for...oh, approximately three or four months. To be utterly honest? It's been flitting around ever since I saw V for Vendetta the first time. Parallels in movie are drawn between the VFV characters and the characters of Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo, the main character of which is named Edmond Dantes. So, what do you think of Edmond? It's always seemed rather poncy to me (I much preferred Edmund), but it's been growing on me, and I'm really starting to like it. I'm sure he'd be called Edmond a lot, but I expect I'd call him Eddie, too. Do you have any MN ideas? I've been pretty stuck on names lately, so the only ideas coming to my mind are Edmond Ray and Edmond Robert Riley. You know, the mn choices that're kind of my cop-outs, lol. I also thought of Edmond Zacchaeus, Edmond Lorenz, and Edmond Frank (Frank as a full name is a family name), but they don't quite sit right. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks! :DArrayETA: Just thought of one more question. Do you think that using the O spelling would be terribly inconvenient? That people would misspell it constantly?

I love Edmund/Edmond, either spelling. With the o, though, I'm more like to say ed-MONDE than ED-mund. :b I don't care for Ed or Eddie as a nn, but I like Ned/Ted/Teddy. :) Right before I saw your post, I had been watching movie trailers at apple.com and there was one called "Edmond"--a thriller starring William H. Macy. I thought maybe you'd heard of the movie and that's what brought it to mind, lol. As for combos, I like Edmond Ray but Edmond Lorenz is also very distinguished. How do you feel about Edmond Francis?

Francis unfortunately has been nixed forever. It was the name of my great-grandfather, who stole all my great-grandma's money and left her and my grandma. :( So it's out. I wish it wasn't, because I like it, but I would feel disrespectful to my grandma if I used it.Frank is safe, because it was another of my great-grandfathers and since he was German, I can assume his name isn't just a derivation of Francis.Oooh, William H. Macy in a thriller? I do love that man--I'll have to check out that trailer. :D Array

Edmond is the "normal" spelling for me as I am French. I find the name pretty, but a bit old mannish...

I like it. You would definitely be correcting people, but is that really *that* terrible? Edmond looks very attractive to me and Edmund just...doesn't.Rosemary.Pearl

I like Edmond much more than Edmund. It's in one of my favorite combos as a mn: Francis Edmond. Eddie is a good nn. It reminds me of Eddie Izzard. =)I have no idea if you found a good mn for Walter, but I thought of Walter Baruch a few days ago. I dunno if you like Baruch or not, but it's been growing on me lately. As for a mn for Edmond, wdyto... ?Edmond Baruch

Edmond Dashiell (very literary :D)
Edmond Rigby
Edmond Ranulf
Edmond Royce
Edmond Rainier (also very literary)
Edmond Vincenzo
Edmond Jerome
Edmond LazarusI'm not sure how I feel about Baruch. I'll have to think about it. I've been so utterly scattered lately that I still haven't found a really perfect middle name for Walter. :( I'm still looking, though! Thanks for all the ideas--all of them are great, but the above are the ones I could see using myself. :DArray

Is it pronounced differently to Edmund because when I say it, it only seems slightly different ?! I love Edmund, its been growing on me.
I like Edmond Robert Riley, though Edmond Zacchaeus is pretty cool, What about Edmond Lazarus, it sounds funky! Or Edmond Oberon

I say Edmond and Edmund the exact same way, actually (and it'd sound kind of like 'ed-min,' because I'm Midwestern and we tend to eat consonants, lol). And if it's wrong...well, so would all the other people I know, so if I'm wrong, at least I'm wrong and in the majority. ;)I like Edmond Lazarus! That's really funky. Takes upper-crust and down-home and smooshes them together in a tasty combo. Or something like that. In any case, it really appeals to me. Edmond Oberon is very cool, too, but I'm not sure if I'd use Oberon in real life, you know? Auberon nn Aubrey used to be one of my favourites, but I'm not sure I'm ready to take it back up.Thanks for the ideas--Edmond Lazarus is just...fabulous. :DArray

Thanks for the ideas, but I'm not sure I want to go quite that traditional. Edmond Charles sounds like a stuffy old British man to me. Edmond James would be very appropriate, as James is dear to me, but James feels a bit generic there for me.Array
