Delaney?
We have decided that if we're having a girl then the name will be Delaney Erin.Delaney because it's not common which is my main criteria and we all agree that it's such a nice sound. Erin after my older sister who passed away.So opinions on Delaney Erin? Any boy suggestions that would sound good with it?

Erin is nice, but Delaney is a tad too masculine.

I have to laugh--Delaney Erin is the combo I originally picked out for my daughter. I changed it to Delaney Elizabeth, being as Elizabeth is my confirmation name. So of course I think it's perfect.Delaney is not popular at all in my location (Northern Ohio). I don't think you'd run into too many of them.

Sorry, but I can't *stand* the name Delaney. It just sums up everything I dislike about the names I hate. Erin is OK, though.

I think I would prefer Erin Delaney.Unfortnately I really find Delaney a very unnattractive sounding name. It is very much a surname to me. I do really like the name Erin though.Oh and my suggestion for a boys name is Jethro, I just like it, and a nice nn would be Jet.

I love it! Delaney has always intrigued me and the meaning behind the middle name is very touching, it also flows nicely.

Adding boy suggestions ...Finn is my current favourite, so it immediately popped in my head. I also think that Cameron, Miller, Marshall, Tanner, and Drew have a similar feel. You could always use Aaron as a middle name to honour your sister.

Delaney for a girl really has been growing on me lately, and Delaney Erin flows well and looks good too. Great that you're honoring your sis! I don't have any boy suggestions because I'm kinda in a hurry, but if I have time, I'll come back. :)Camille J

Delaney has grown on me a lot as of late, and I think the NN Laney would be very cute. Overall, I favor Laine much more, but Delaney has the same feel imo. Erin isn't ordinarily my style, but I can definitely understand why you'd want to use it. I think the combo is very nice, and using Erin is a lovely gesture toward your sister. Some boys' names that I think go well with Delaney:
Austin
Aidan
Brendan
Conner
Cade
Caden
Cooper
Camden
Cameron
Dylan
Deacon
Evan
Grant
Ian
Jordan
Kyle
Kevin
Landon
Liam
Nicholas
Owen

As I looked over your boy list I couldn't help but smile. I love the name Aidan, only it's suddenly so popular. And Parker is my little brother and Kevin my dad. The other names I like are all taken by family or close friends. Just surprising to see someone put up names that have all ran through my mind like that.Lilypie Expecting a baby Ticker

Hehe...I know what you mean. I've had the same thing happen before :-)

Before BtN, I probably would have said I didn't like it. Delaney is rather gender ambiguous and surnamey for my taste, but with repeated exposure (thanks to our poster with Delaney, Scott and Larissa), I have grown fond of it. Probably the associations to good people from this site, but I like it now.Delaney Erin is a very nice combo, especially with the meaning for you. :)Magnanimous Despair alone could show me so divine a thing, where feeble hope could ne'er have flown, but vainly flapped its tinsel wing.

Using Erin as the middle name is a beautiful sentiment and a lovely gesture to your sister.I must say that I honestly do not like Delaney much. I'm not a fan of surnames as names unless 1) it happens to be a surname from your or your partner's family tree or 2) the name holds a special meaning for you, such as it's the name of your favourite poet/musician/character from a book, etc... If you're looking for names that aren't common and probably won't be (because Delaney is rather popular here, being in the top twenty), there are plenty of classic female names that fit that criteria. On the positive side, Delaney Erin has a good cadence and good flow. For boys, I would suggest using the middle name Aaron (because it sounds similar to Erin) or use the Gaelic name for Ireland, Eire (since Erin is considered the poetic name for Ireland). First name suggestions:Oliver
Henry
Jack
Liam
Gabriel
Leo
David
Silas
Elias
Noel
Conor
Finn
Percy

I was surprised to see that Delaney is popular in your area. Do you mind my asking where that is because I've never met one and really hadn't even heard of it until my husband brought it up from no where. And is Jack not popular in your area? It's everywhere here.Lilypie Expecting a baby Ticker

I'm from Lexington, KY. Jack hasn't risen in popularity here. The only one I know is a man who's about 50-55 years old.Delaney and its many variants are crawling all over the place here. Off the bat I can name a Delaney Rose, Delaney Grace, Delaney Marie, Delaney Rachel, DeLainey Faith, Delanie Kyle and a Delanney Danae (her mother swears that the double 'N' doesn't make the preceding 'A' short. Yeah, and the Earth is still flat and the Loch Ness monster lives. Does it surprise you to learn that Delanney has a big sister named Hallie pronounced Haley?).

we're from Charleston, WV and I didn't think there would be that big of difference. But I've never heard of Delaney before and I know so many Jack's I can't keep track of them. Odd how we're not that far yet the naming is totally different.
