Bantu refers to a whole group of languages, extending from West/Central Africa right down to the southern tip; Swahili is a member of that group. You wouldn't say, European languages and French; same thing.tahn DEE way is what it sounds like where I live; pretty name. The silent H isn't exactly what we're used to in English - it's a sign that the T is unvoiced (as if only the T sound is whispered, and the rest of the word spoken as usual).

We gave our daughter the name of Thandiwe. In South Africa it is pronounced tan-dee-we. Tan like tun(nel), dee like the spelling of the letter d, we with a soft w and a short e like we(ather). We like the name because of it's meaning, but also because the short version is Thandi and everybody in the world can pronounce the name.
