Chad and Casey met when a friend of Casey's convinced her to travel to a new poetry slam with her, to support another friend with his first time emcee-ing. This other friend just happened to be Chad. Chad is a high school teacher who organized the poetry slam for his students, hoping that with the help of his city friends, it would become bigger.
During the poetry slam, it started to snow heavily. Chad invited a few people to stay at his house for the night so they wouldn't have to drive. This included Casey and her friend. They spend most of the night drinking and jamming, and after everyone else had fallen asleep, Casey and Chad stayed up talking.
Before Casey returned home the next day, she and Chad decided to stay in contact. They spent many late nights talking on the phone, and day trips to visit each other, even if it was just for a few hours. About 6 poetry slams (or 6 months) later, he proposed to her. She found another job in the same town as him, and a few months later, they married.
They had a small wedding at a local park, with just close friends and family. Being poets, they wrote their own vows. A larger reception was held later. They are happy and confident in their marriage, but Casey is now realizing that his mental issues were worse than she had thought and there will be serious issues that they will have to work through.
