I like the name a lot and I actually don't mind Maya, Maia or Mya. I'd probably be more inclined to use the Maia spelling though. As for the pronunciation, I do say MY-ah.
Out of Maia, Kaia and Gaia, Maia would be my fave, but Kaia is a close second. I don't think Kaia is too trendy and certainly don't think Maia sounds dated, not at all. Gaia is nms. I could see Kaia, Kaya, Kya gaining popularity over the next few years. Don't think it will ever be as popular as Maya, Maia, Mya though.
