The past several years have been very difficult time for Hermione and William. As the Great Matter reached a boiling point, some of the anti-appointee feeling became centered around the Old King's family, especially Prince William. William, however, has no desire to lead a rebellion against his sister-in-law, and no desire to be king anymore. He decided to withdraw from public life, leaving the palace and retiring to a country estate, taking his children with him for safety, including newborn baby Niobe. Hermione remained at Court, helping her sister prepare for the threat of civil war.
When war broke, Hermione served on the front lines as a battlemage. The intervening years were fiercely difficult for the family, with Hermione only home for a few weeks out of the year. Athena, a burgeoning mage, and Leda, a healer-in-training, wanted to help in the war effort. Frightened as they were for their daughters' safety, William and Hermione knew that this was important to Athena and Leda, and allowed the two of them to work behind-the-scenes, though front line action was expressly forbidden them by Queen Minerva. Athena helped to set enchantments on weapons, charms, and bandages, and Leda worked at a field hospital, working mostly to cure infections and quell fevers. The younger children remained at home with their father, assembling care packages of clothing and food to send to families of fallen soldiers and refugees. When the war ended, Hermione was pleasantly surprised by the College of Mages' election of the next Arch-Mage. Hermione was named the new Arch-Mage in a nearly unanimous vote, replacing her elderly predecessor who had perished during the war. Soon after the peace treaty, Hermione discovered she was pregnant with her final child, a lovely fair-haired girl they named Phaedra.
After nearly 15 years of marriage, Hermione and William have grown closer than either of them thought possible on their wedding night. They have established an academy for all types of gifted students, including magicals, half-breeds, and any class of people. They have borne and raised six children, five daughters and one son. Athena has grown into a beautiful young woman, with the same violet eyes with silver threads as her mother. She is quite a powerful mage, though not quite the same caliber as her mother, and shows interest in the battlemage arts. She is tall and slender, with dark hair, and Hermione and William plan to introduce her formally at Court in a few years. Leda is as fair as her sister is dark, with William's golden curl and pale blue eyes. The silver flecks in her eyes are much less pronounced than Athena's, but her healing magic is progressing well. Neither Melaina nor Robert have shown any kind of magical ability at all and as such, as a little closer to their father than their mother, Robert especially. Niobe seems to be slightly magical and as dark haired as Athena and Melaina. Phaedra is too young to tell either way.
