Of the Royal House of Covedale, of the kingdom of Bellemar
Cornelius' father has stepped down and granted him the dukedom, making him Cornelius, Duke of Alendale. Leo retains his Earl title.
Shortly after the births of Leo and Magda, Princess Juliana announced her engagement to her longtime sweetheart, the eldest son of Cassian and Adelaide Grace, a handsome young man named August. Juliana has grown into a very lovely young woman, almost exactly a female version of her late uncle, the king's twin brother. She has brilliant golden hair and blue eyes, and her skin, though at first as pale as her father's, has bronzed in her constant outdoor endeavors. She is without a doubt, Kieran's favorite daughter, and perhaps even his favorite child, even above his three younger sons. August and Juliana have been friends since childhood. August is Cassian's firstborn, the babe that Adelaide Grace was carrying when the family returned to Bellemar. Cassian's family is one of the oldest aristocratic families in Bellemar, and several of their ancestors were kings before the throne passed to the Covedales. Juliana is one of the best horseback riders in the kingdom, competing in equestrian competitions and winning many of them. She is also quite a good archer and falconer, as well as a gardener, a skill her mother taught her before she was tall enough to ride a horse. August is also a rider, archer, and falconer, though he is rather an abysmal gardener! They have been sweethearts since Juliana was 14 and August finally asked Juliana to marry him. Kieran was overjoyed and spared no expense for his favorite child's wedding. It was a lavish affair, rivaling the glamorous wedding of her older sister, sprawling throughout the palace and grounds, with Queen Elisabeth's gardens on display. Juliana and August are extremely happy together and are very glad to be married to one another.
The wedding wasn't just the happiest day of Juliana's life, but one of the happiest of her younger sister's as well. Cecilia has always felt like the invisible princess. Last of the girls, following Juliana, and twin to the beloved Crown Prince, Cecilia has always felt like the background sister. She is quiet, studious, and significantly plainer than her older sisters. She plays the flute beautifully, and at Juliana's wedding she played several pieces for the ceremony and the party. Her lovely melodies attracted the attention of another young musician. William is a student at the conservatory and the son of a baron and therefore not a noble himself. Though it took him almost an hour to work up the nerve, William went to talk to the princess and they hit it off immediately.
As the crown prince, Robert has not really been allowed much leeway in his romances. His wife will be the future queen, so very much attention has been paid to his romantic advances. He is a well-liked young man and has been the object of a many of girl's desire. So when a minor foreign princess came to Court to study gardening and learn to read, Robert found her fascinating. Slightly older than him but the last of eight daughters, she was happy to a friend in Bellemar. Their friendship soon blossomed into something more. Robert spoke with his mother about arranging a betrothal with the young woman, but with Juliana's wedding plans in full swing, the conversation was relegated until after the wedding. Robert and Isolda continued their romance very quietly, their sureness and passion growing with every passing week, culminating at Juliana's wedding. The wine and the whirlwind nature of their romance led them away from the party to Robert's apartments. A few weeks later, Isolda came to him and told him that she was almost certain she was expecting his child. Blindsided, Robert went straight to his parents and told them that betrothal arrangements needed to be changed to marriage arrangements -- and quickly. Kieran had not yet even given his blessing for the betrothal, hoping instead to match his heir with a more important princess from a more important nation and was absolutely furious for his son's lack of discretion. He refused to speak to Robert for weeks, even threatening to name Nicholas as heir instead of Robert. Elisabeth could not change his mind with her pleas to let them avoid scandal by marrying the couple as soon as possible and saying that the negotiations had taken place in secret to protect Isolda from plots and schemes. Kieran refused, raging against his son. The newly married Juliana tried to take him out of his anger at Robert, but to no avail. It was only Rosemary's gentle reminders of the way she and the king had ended up together, and how Elisabeth's forgiveness and compassion had allowed them to be together all these years, that finally broke the king's anger. He allowed the marriage to move forward. Isolda's father was more than happy to allow the marriage of his youngest to the heir to a powerful kingdom. Though she confided in her mother, Isolda did not tell her father that she was already pregnant. The wedding plans picked up again, and invitations went out almost immediately. Isolda was nervous and ill from her pregnancy, dreading her older sisters' arrival because of their beauty, afraid that her new family would feel they had been stuck with the runt of the family. Robert, however, proved how much of a gentleman he already was and took his fiancee in his arms and assured her that he loved her, loved her besides the fact that she was carrying his child. The wedding was a success and the new in-laws adored Robert and Bellemar and signed a trade agreement with Kieran while they were visiting. Kieran grudgingly accepts that his son has chosen well, though perhaps a little too hastily.
Though she was massively uncomfortable, Isolda was glad that the baby held off for a few weeks to hold off the whispers. When the baby was born, she was a lovely healthy little daughter with her mother's dark red hair and her father's dark blue eyes. She was born just a week after her cousin Barty, and about two weeks after her birth, William proposed to Cecilia and yet another wedding is in the works in Bellemar!
