[Opinions] Re: Marcus
in reply to a message by whim
Marcus is a favorite of mine. I'd use it - it's on my list of "would use if husband hated everything else I like more" list. It's so shamelessly pagan and Ancient Rome, but it is also pretty darned conventional (thanks in part I'm sure to the popularity of Mark which is more of a New Testament name). It's one of the few -us names that doesn't seem too Latin for me. I also like the nickname Marc - although I don't care for Mark, which makes no sense.
It would be fun to put it with another Roman -us name but, I won't.
It's hard to make combos with. It's a very masculine name, but with too pretty a middle name it starts to sound floppy.
Marcus Conrad
Marcus Brandon
Marcus Robert

Barely! I had typed out that exact combo. =) Demetrius isn't all that Ancient Roman-ish, after all.

True! And it just feels so right to me. Haha.
If I'm completely honest the first combo that came to mind for me was Marcus Aurelius. I think it's compulsive.
Marcus really isn't an easy to make combos with. I've been poking and prodding it and I've gotten pretty much nowhere.
I really like Marcus Robert. I'm not a huge fan of Robert but it seems nicer with Marcus.
Thank you!
