A good friend of mine (m) is names Sky which takes anyone meeting him some getting used to. Skye is much more common as a feminine name. I don't love Skylar/Skyler/Schuyler.
Personally I agree that Skya, spelled this way, does seem incomplete or slang of some type.
If I were to use this as a name I would spell it differently... Skaia, Skiah... I don't know.
