I don't think Yuri comes off as explicit as it's male counterpart. The Yuri handle encompasses non-sexual content too after all, and has more of a pure romance image to me, to match it's 'lily' meaning.

Shoujo yuri (or shoujo ai) encompasses lesbian romances that do not have explicit sexual content. However, yuri is often to Shoujo ai what Yaoi is to shounen ai at least when manga is sorted for browsing western audiences.

Yeah I was referring to the Japanese usage, but even outside Japan I see Yuri as more of a catchall term.
