Year Zero
Lillian Thurayya and Esther Isabel Curie Al Din have welcoemd a baby boy, Hugo Qamar Curie Al Din. Hugo has thick black hair and brown skin, like Lillian, and grey eyes like Esther. He has one older sibling, a sister named Zahrah Winter-Rose Curie Al Din. Zahra has Lillian's hair as well, and her brown eyes, but she shares Esther's fair skin. At 8 months old, Lillian and Esther realize that Hugo is incredibly smart, able to recognize and say an above average amount of words.

Year One
At a year and a half, Hugo hits a milestone early: he begins to walk by himself! The family are elated at this, and he is constantly shocking them with his profiency.

Year Two
Despite his profiency for walking and speaking, Hugo doesn't seem to understand many social cues. He doesn't wave at people when they leave or when he meets them, and he doesn't understand games like peek-a-boo. And though he speaks often, he doesn't communicate well nonverbally. Concerned, Lillian and Esther talked to Hugo's pediatrician, who is going to watch him for a social developmental disorder.

Year Three
Esther finds out she's pregnant, and the whole family is very excited preparing for the new baby. Imagine their shock when they learn they'll be welcoming not one, but two! The Curie Al Din family welcome identical twin girls, Lina Madeline Curie Al Din and Ruqayya Inès Curie Al Din. Lina and Ruqayya are identical twins, who look just like Esther: brown hair, grey eyes, and fair skin.

Year Four
Hugo is diagnosed as Deaf, having lost his hearing after falling out of a tree. None of his family members are Deaf, but Lillian and Esther have Deaf friends who help guide them through the new diagnosis. Since Hugo is already so proficient in English, they opt to give him AAC instead of teaching him sign language.

Year Five
Lillian and Esther adopt a hedgehog for the family! They give Zahrah the honor of naming her, and she decides to call her Spikerella.

Year Six
Hugo learns how to swim, with the help of Zahrah and Lillian! Lillian was a swimmer through high school and college, and is ecstatic that her baby boy has learned.

Year Seven
Lillian and Esther have an unexpected guest: a new baby! Her name is Agnes Lawahiz Curie Al Din, and she looks just like the twins and Esther, though she has Lillian's nose.

Year Eight
Lillian and Esther thought they'd be done at five kids, but life had other things in store! This year, they welcomed their son Boris Junayd Curie Al Din. Boris has Esther's brown hair and fair skin, but Lillian's deep brown eyes.

Year Nine
The Curie Al Dins move to Italy for a year as Esther finishes her thesis on Italian sculpture work in the Renaissance. Zahrah's super excited, and since she got a phone last year, she can easily stay in contact with her friends. Hugo is not as amused. He liked his old life, where he had a big backyard, friends he'd known his whole life, and a language he could speak. Lina and Ruqayya go with the flow, and Agnes and Boris are too little to care. Spikerella comes with them, of course.

Year Ten
Though Italy was nice, the Curie Al Dins have moved back to America, much to the relief of Hugo. Lillian and Esther knew he hadn't acclimated well and would be excited to get back, so they worked with the parents of his friends to have a surprise welcome home party thrown for him. Hugo loved it, and was so excited to see all of his friends again.

Year Twelve
Hugo joins the ASL club, wanting to better connect with other Deaf kids in his area and help teach hearing students about the Deaf experience.

Hugo discovers he's a very talented dancer! Unfortunately, none of the dance teams at school will accept him, on account of his Deafness. Undettered, he starts studying one-on-one with Esther's friend Nikita, a ballerino. Though he's got a lot to catch up on, Hugo is determined to become the best ballerino he can.
