I don't have anything against the name. It's perfectly fine.
My biggest issue with it is the fact that it sounds dated at this point - not dated for a mature adult woman, but dated for a baby being born. The majority of women named Stephanie I know are older than I am (I'm 29).
I've never met anyone who actually used the nickname Stevie, but several who have used Steph. (I also know one who went by Fanny. So. There's that.)
As far as the elderly women - depends on what your definition is of "elderly." Stevie Nicks' given name is Stephanie, for example. The majority of Stephanies I've encountered are between their 30s and 50s.
