My mom wanted to name me Leigh when I was born. She dated a guy named Lee before my dad. He didn't like the name, needless to say, but I would much rather have been named Leigh than Suzanne, which is what I was named. Anyway, perhaps you can compromise on a name that sounds like Kelly, such as Kiley, or Keely. I could understand not wanting to have your child named after an ex-girlfriend, but MAYBE he truely just likes the name.
