Some sites note that Leora is a pet name for
Helen
.
Helen
does imply "light, torch" in Greek. This is the only association I can find between Leora and light.

I've seen
Leonie
as a pet name for
Eleanor
, and Leora actually makes more sense that way.

Eleanor
-- which according to this site may also be related to
Helen
-- is certainly a more plausible source for Leora :)

It also sounds like Liora, from
Lior
("my light"). :)
