Allegra Dafne and Celia Cristina are twelve year old twins. Allegra cries a lot, due to the recent death of her older brother and both parents. Celia has moved on very well, and tries to cheer Allegra up when she is depressed. Allegra writes poetry, though she is too shy to share it with anyone but her sister. Celia is also a writer, though of short stories. Celia is the more bold of the two, and though she has been fighting against bone cancer for three years now, is a very strong person. The girls are from Italy, and speak only a little English, though they are learning.

Andoni Gutxi and Haizea Zorion are both from southern France. They are both basque, and their parents died in a fire. Andoni is nine years old, and Haizea is fourteen. Andoni likes to ride his bicycle, and wants to ride up a high mountain one day. Haizea too likes cycling, though she is very skilled at roller-blading, and prefers it. Both also play ice hockey, and would like to be in the Olympics one day.
