[Facts] pronunciation girls irish name
i'm thinking of using TEAGAN to name my baby but I would prefer to pronounce it TAY- GAN even though it's supposed to be TEE-GAN. is this really bad or an acceptable adjustment?
Replies
Teagan is not a traditional Irish name so I don't think there's any "correct" pronunciation. As it's an anglicisation, TAY-gan and TEE-gan are both acceptable.
Magia's absolutely right. It's pronounced 'tie-gan.'

Well, most of the people on this site are against ANY adjustments and/or creative spellings, really. This is an etymological site, after all. Meaning words are spelled a certain way for one or several good reasons.
I LOVE the name Teadghan (spelled this way). Teagan is more of an anglicised form of the original Welsh version, but still a more common one. And Teadghan is pronounced TIE-gan as in Tiger, more or less...
Hope this helps
