I'm torn. At first instant, I prefered Ann...but then Anne started to seem appealing as well. But I'll go with Ann, I guess. And I don't like Annie much either, I would never stand to use it.
I think that anything could make a comeback, so I wouldn't rule Ann or Anne out altogether. Especially since "old-fashioned" names are coming back in style, even though Ann/Anne is simpler. I would go with Anne coming back over Ann because Ann does seem kind of plain to many people and Anne has more of an old-fashioned charm.
I think that most one-syllabled names are overused as middle names for girls (Rose, June, Jane, May / Mae, etc.). Ann always seemed more "filler-esque" than Anne though.
