[Surname] Tschida
I have a good friend by this name. It's pronounced much like "cheetah." Supposedly it's German; that's all I know about it. Ring any bells with anyone?

It's German as you can see at http://www.ancestry.com/facts/tschida-family-history.ashx but not much more is known apparently.
More common in Austria than Germany, and best represented close to the Hungarian border where the surname Csida is found (in Hungary, that is. None of this negates the Slavic origin theory. Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, is not far away.
