Aw, I think Bonnie is sweet. At work I see a number of Bonnies--two short for Bonita, and one whose full name is Bonnie-Amelia Maryrose.

Really, it sounds like one of those nicknames that is a term of endearment more than a short version of a full name. I wouldn't sweat it too much if it wasn't all that close.
