Whoa.... I never even noticed the difference in spelling. Why do you prefer Sibyl over Sybil, may I ask? I might have to write out the name a few times to see which I like better.I like these combos a lot!Sybil Antoinette
Sybil Augusta
Sybil Dagmar
Sybil Diana
Sybil Dorothea
Sybil Edwina
Sybil Eudora (I love Eudora so much!)- I also love Eudora so much! I love it as a first name actually - how do you think Sybil and Eudora sound as sisters? ;)
Sybil Eugenie
Sybil Francoise
Sybil Georgina
Sybil Gwendolen
Sybil Juliet
Sybil Margery -so medieval!
Sybil Marguerite - normally I don't care for Marguerite but this is lovely
Sybil Marianne - aw Marianne makes the name so sweet and innocent!
Sybil Octavia
Sybil Odette
Sybil Rosalind
Sybil Rosemary - two slightly demonic names together - I am all about that
Sybil Veronica - oh I love the energy of this
Sybil Violet
Sybil Violette
Sybil Wanda

agree with WordsmithI prefer Sibyl too. I think Sibyl (or Sibylla in Greek) is the original spelling and I usually prefer those. Plus I think Sibyl looks more balanced than Sybil. I don't even know why but I don't like 'S' and 'y' so close together. That may just me being weird though ;)

Sibyl is the more authentic spelling. My guess is that the Sybil spelling came about because of confusion with Sylvia. I have no data on that. It took me a little getting used to because I used to spell it Sybil too. But it's not that difficult and I'm glad I did.The authenticity is the most important to me. But I also like Sibyl visually. The "y" at the end looks more at home. This is an odd turn of my mind, but the "y" looks heavier than the "i" and so seems to belong after it. I was so enchanted with the notion that you loved the name that I dind't even notice when I left my comments above.

but but but.....But I liked the idea of "Billie" as a secret family pet name via the bil in Sybil. Sad face.....I agree that Sibyl does look more natural. The Y does look more at home. But I can't write it properly! My handwriting obviously can't computer S-I-B with a capital S. Maybe I could call her lowercase-sibyl, a la bell hooks the feminist writer. I guess I need to practice my Sibyl cursives and teach myself to stop using Sybil.

I think Sibyl could still go by Billie ;)
