“We were pretty close when I was a young boy. My dad was entirely too business minded to be creative. He never understood me musically.” Carbrey explained as he placed his razor and shaving cream into the bag on the counter.
“What about your mom?” Jude asked as he put five toothbrushes into their travel cases.
“She always supported me.” Carbrey shrugged, “However, it‘s a good thing I don‘t remember lullabies as an infant or I probably would’ve been too scarred to ever do music in my life. My mom sings like an attacking walrus.”
“You say that out of love?” Jude asked, eyes wide and playful.
“The purest,” Carbrey smirked. His look saddened when spoke up and said, “My grandfather bought me my first guitar. He could play, but he was better at piano. And when I wrote my first song, I played it to him first. You know, some little rhymey tune about a girl who didn‘t love me or something.”
“A girl?” Jude questioned.
“Oh, come on, I was ten. Even I didn‘t know I was gay then.”
Jude smiled and then looked to meet Carbrey’s dark brown eyes. “He sounds like a great person.” And Carbrey didn’t have to reply for Jude to know he really was.
(^^Triplet suitcases.)
They took them to Scotland, but they didn’t actually take the triplets or Zara to the funeral. They figured the children were too young to understand and the fox would have been completely out of place. Carbrey hadn’t seen his grandfather in six years, but he still cried when they buried him. He should have came home for holidays. He should have came home to show off the children. He should have came home to just see his family.
