Year 1- Random
Mike and I are currently living in Vancouver, Canada while I work on a team to help rescue and relocate wildlife that are caught in the wild fire that is currently raging in the nearby forests. Firefighters are doing their best to put an end to it, but in the meantime it is up to the team of conservation environmentalists to help the save the wildlife. Vancouver is a beautiful city and it's so nice that Mike works from home doing web design so he can travel with me. I've been very busy with work, but I have been able to enjoy the city a bit. We're not sure how long we will be staying. We've rented an apartment and are prepared to stay as long as we need to. I've also been busy working on raising money and getting volunteers to help out while we are here. It's wonderful to see so many people join the cause and help out!
Year 2- Move
After a year long stay in Vancouver, Canada, Mike and I are moving to Brazil. We are both very excited to live in such an interesting and beautiful place! I've been given the opportunity to work with a research team studying different endangered bird species while in Brazil. We found a nice condo in Rio de Janeiro that is close to the beach. I can't wait to relax on the beach, but I am mostly excited about working with such an awesome research team and learning about the amazing birds in Brazil so we can better protect them!
Year 3- Birth
Mike and I are currently laying in bed staring at our beautiful new daughter. We weren't planning on starting a family yet, but we were both very happy when I found out that I was pregnant. My pregnancy went very well and I enjoyed every minute of it! I had some morning sickness, but as soon as that went away it was wonderful. All of the friends we've made over the past year were so excited for us and some of the girls on the team I work with threw me a baby shower. It was so much fun! I wanted to have a nice peaceful home birth in our condo, so we found a midwife we really liked and she was wonderful! My labor was about eleven hours long and although it was painful, it was an amazing experience for both of us. Our daughter was born on September 1st at 5:03am. She was 7lbs, 0oz, and 19ins and has soft brown hair and gorgeous brown eyes. We named our little girl Mahala Eve Casey (Mahala is a family name on both sides of our families). She is so peaceful and sweet! Mike and I can't get over how beautiful she is! We are both so happy to have a daughter! :)

Year 4- Birthday Party
Mahala just turned one year old! :) I can't believe it has been a year already! We had a big birthday party for her at our house and invited all of the little neighbor kids and friends we've made at playtime classes. Mike and I made a beautiful (and yummy!) green and pink cake for her and the kids had a lot of fun playing games. Mahala loved running around with all of her friends and had a great time! She has been walking for a few months now and says some words, but mostly just jabbers. She is definitely a daddy's girl and loves reading stories and playing games with Mike! Mike stays home with her when I'm out working in the field, but I do get to be home a lot and we love taking her for walks to the market or the beach. :)
Mahala:
Year 5- Travel
Mahala is two years old now and we just took her on her first trip out of Brazil. We spent a week and a half in Japan exploring Tokyo, the coastal cities, and the awesome islands. We had a lot of fun! Mahala is getting so big and has become really outgoing. She doesn't like to be held much and likes to do her own thing, she is very independent. When we are at home in Rio, her favorite things are playing on the beach and visiting the animals in the vet. hospital that is part of the organization I work for. She loves animals like Mamma and her favorite animal in the world are monkeys!

Year 6- Random
For a long time I have wanted to start my own environmental organization, and although I have not started my own, I am happy to announce that I have been given the opportunity to take over the organization I work for! Our group already does a lot of important wildlife and habitat research, but we have plans on spreading out more to other countries and putting a lot more focus on educating people and getting more funding to be able to buy wildlife reservations around the world for important conservation. Mike will be helping me with the organization and we've already been looking into where we would like to open up another location for research and education. Mahala just turned 3 years old and is such a grown up little girl! :) She attends preschool classes a few days a week and loves to come to work with Mike and I and play with the animals and "help" us with our research. She is such a sweet, nurturing girl too and has made good friends at the animal hospital! Of course monkeys are still her favorite, but she loves spending time feeding the birds and other animals as well!
Year 7- Pet
We just adopted a young female parrot named Jovita. :) She was attacked by a dog and brought to our animal hospital. Her left wing was broken and she won't be able to fly again, so she wouldn't be able to survive in the wild. So we brought her home to live with us! She is a very funny bird and loves getting treats. Mahala (who just turned 4) is in love with her and they've become best friends! She insists we take her on walks with us, so Jovita rides in the stroller with Mahala. :) Mike and I love birds, so we've really enjoyed having her too!

Year 8- Birth
Mike and I just welcomed our new baby girl into the world! :) We decided since Mahala was going to be 5 this year we wanted to give her a sibling. It didn't take long for me to get pregnant, but this pregnancy was a lot different than my last one. I had morning sickness the whole 9 months and felt tired all the time! It was worth it though and we had a beautiful birth at home with the midwife and Mahala in the room. We named our baby girl Harper Ruth Casey and she was born on November 18th at 7:29am. She was 7lbs, 8oz, and 19 1/2in and has light brown hair and gorgeous brown eyes. Mahala is so excited to have a baby sister! She helps us with the diapers and sings her songs when she cries. She is going to be such a good big sister! :) Harper is a lot fussier than Mahala was, but she settles down as soon as someone cuddles her!

Year 9- Move
Mike and I finally worked out everything for our organization's new location. We chose Melbourne, Australia and will be moving there in one week to get everything started. I've loved Australia since I was little and have always wanted to move there! We found a cute three bedroom house in one of Melbourne's suburbs. We will miss Brazil and all of the friends we've made, but we are all very excited about moving to Australia. Mahala, who just turned 6, is going to be attending a really good primary school and she is very excited about it! I can't believe our little Harper is already a year old already! She is such a funny girl and she and Mahala get along great! Harper is definitely more opinionated than her older sister, but she is also very sweet and loves to laugh and smile! :)

Year 10- Adoption
Mike and I decided we wanted to add to our family, but we really wanted to adopt. So we contacted an adoption agency and found a sweet one week old baby boy from South Korea. The adoption process didn't take long and we were able to bring him home after only 3 months. He didn't have a name when he came to the children's home, so we were able to name him ourselves. We named our new son Grayson Michael Casey. Mahala and Harper (who are now 7 and 2) are very excited to have a baby brother (although I think Harper may be a bit jealous :p)! They love to help dress him and take him for walks. He is such a smiley, happy baby and we are so happy to have him in our family! :)
