In the Kingdom of: ElseyTen inherited the kingdom outright after his mother passed away, even though it was his father who had done most of the work. However, this worked out for the best as Ten was able to retain his father as an Imperial Minister and Supreme Council to the Ruler, plus this gave his father a much needed break. ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~You see, the Kingdom of Elsey had a tradition of ultimogeniture, where the youngest inherited the titles. If there was a noble marriage, both parents ruled equally (unless there was an issue, and this was taken care of with the marriage contract), but the titles, land, and funds would pass to the heir - the YOUNGEST child - upon the death of the parent who had inherited the titles originally. This provided for long periods of rule by one person, which lent itself to stability and growth. The only exception would be if the youngest child was under-aged (not yet 16 years) at the time of inheritance. In that case the surviving parent would act as Regent. If the child was at least 10, then s/he would have equal say in the ruling of the Kingdom. If the child was younger then 10 the Regent could rule or the Council of Nobles might be approached and asked to allow an older sibling to inherit. This is always a complicated process and is avoided by everybody as much as possible. ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~Ten was the youngest of his 8 siblings. His mother, Emmeline, knew that the best she could provide for the Kingdom of Elsey was a strong Royal family. Emmeline just didn't have any knack for ruling, and even less desire to learn. However, she was an only child and couldn't pass the torch to another. Emmeline did her best and married for the good of Elsey. She did that one thing very well, and he was able to do most of the day to day ruling of the Kingdom. Emmeline then made sure that the Kingdom would have enough heirs to prevent any tragedy.Lacking in creativity (one of the reasons she just didn't make a good ruler), Emmeline just used past Kings and Queens names as names for all of her children. Ten was named after a long line of Royals, but his name was outdated because the Estienne line hadn't ruled in Elsey in almost 500 years.Ten loved both of his parents. However, he could see that, while they were fond of each other, there was no love between them. His biggest fear was that his marriage would be all politeness and no love or tenderness.Royal Father Wulf advocated for Ten to traveling to the northern part of Elsey. RF Wulf knew that there was a very strong Noble family up there and that they had beautiful and spirited daughters. Ten agreed, if only as an escape from court and the ladies throwing themselves at him. It was love at first sight for Ten and Pippa. In fact, bards are already starting to write romantic stories about their great love, even though they were just married.
