I like the name. It's different without being too out there. It used to be in my top 10. I pronounce it KEHR-iss. I used to know a Carys, and she pronounced it the same way. Carys Faith
Carys Gwendolen
Carys Matilda
Carys Louisa

I love Carys, I think is lovely. It's also my niece's middle name.As far as I know there is only one pronunciation. It's hard to write or but it rhymes with Harris, but with a C/K sound at the beginning.

It's alright. It reminds me not of "caries" but of "caress" and "care," and that makes it seem too soft and weak for my taste. Like Lily. I had it on a favorites list once though. It does have some appeal.I pronounce it, roughly, "KEHR-iss." Like "care." I could be easily trained to say it like "car" if I were asked to, though.

I want to like Carys. I certainly like the way it looks, however, it reminds me of dental caries and carrots. Can't shake those associations. I pronounce it CARE-iss.Combos:Carys Gwendolen
Carys Margaret
Carys Meiriona
Carys Rhiannon

Adding...I work with a Carys who is originally from Wales and she pronounces her name with the first syllable sounding like the word "care" and so does everyone who knows her.

KA riss, with the first sound as in cat (listen to the top pronunciation here: http://www.forvo.com/word/carys/#cy) If you want something pronounced care-iss, then Cerys is closer.
It's a nice enough name and would go with almost anything, barring other ca- and -iss names and R & S names. Carys Olivia
Carys Emily
Carys Juliet
Carys Elinor
Carys Anwen
Carys Jane
Carys Lily

I would pronounce KAHR-ihs. I prefer Charis, which I think is easier to pronounce.

I pronounce it CA-riss. The 'ca' is like the beginning of the word 'cat'. I think it's ok but it's not a favourite of mine.

I really like the name Carys in theory but don't know if I would use it because its fairly unknown in my area and I would expect pronunciation problems. I like the meaning and the look though, and I think it could work :-) I would pronounce it "KAIR-ihhs."

I don't like it because it reminds me very strongly of caries, or dental cavities. Plus it's tricky to pronounce. I'd rather just see Carrie or even Carissa.
