I say if you're going for the Lee-a sound, just go ahead and use Leah; much simpler and makes more sense. I've heard Lea pronounced like Lee and as Leah, so yes, there is room for confusion.

I would be going more for a "lay-ah" pronunciation.

I didn't read this before I made my response. In that case, I don't like Lea. I don't think the syllable "lay" is a good thing in a girl's name. eah And yeah, there'd be confusion. I think a lot of people would, like I did, think it would be pronounced like Leah.

I think for English speakers the pronunciation of LAY-a for the name Lea is not very intuitive. It could be a real headache.Leia would be a better alternative.
