[Opinions] Mirren / Merrin
I recently read the book We Were Liars by E. Lockhart (highly, highly recommend it), and one of the main characters is called Mirren. At first all I could think of was Helen Mirren, but now I actually find it a really nice name in itself.
What are your thoughts?
Do you prefer Merrin? I do, in part because I wouldn't want an overt connection to an actor.
Mirren is a girl in the novel, I should point out, and I see Merrin as primarily a girl's name too.

Merrin makes me think of "The Exorcist." Satan screaming "MEERRRIIIN!" Mirren for a girl is kind of pretty. Makes me think of a novel I read that took place between the years 1000 and 1100, and the main character's name was Merewyn, which I thought was pretty but which evidently became obsolete.
Mirren is on one of my lists, mostly because I love double-letter names.
I much prefer Mirren over Merrin, the sound is nicer and classier imo.
I think it is totally usable. And, not to be rude, but considering Helen Mirren's age, I doubt the connection would be that strong any children named Mirren today.
I reccommend it actually, as it is simple, easy to say and spell and is pretty while not being trendy. Plus, it is a real name.

Mirren's relatively well known in Scotland and Ireland, so i don't automatically associate it with the actress. I like Mirren, but not Muirne which is the more Irish equivalent. I prefer Merryn to Merrin. Merrin looks like a surname.
