[Opinions] Dolores
I'm really loving Dolores lately. I do think it's a bit much for a wee one, so I'm trying to think of a good nickname, but nothing is tickling my fancy. I don't like Dolly or Dory. Right now I'm loving Dolores Petra and Dolores Cosette. What vibe do you get from Dolores? Can you see it for a little girl today? Nickname ideas? Combo ideas? TIAWe are having a boy any day now, but I'm working on girl names because I hate all the boy names and they're depressing me.~Anna~

Dolores Virginia is absolutely gorgeous, and DH will always agree to Virginia. PLUS I think I could swing Dove as a logical nickname and I love that. Definitely going on the list for if the ultrasounds were somehow wrong.Thank you!

I like it, it's unexpected and elegant and both of your combos actually make me like it even more.I'd probably call a Dolores "Lola" or "Lo Lo"...Lo Lo would just be a fun around the house nickname obviously! My friend has a little girl named Harlow and we all call her Lo Lo and it's really grown on me and seemed the most natural pet name.

Lola is probably the traditional nickname for Dolores, although nowadays Lola is generally thought of as an independent name. Lolita is another traditional nickname for Dolores.I actually like Dolores. I think it's pretty. It's used here in Brazil, although it's technically a Spanish name rather than a Portuguese one (though non-Portuguese names are actually very common here). I've met a few Brazilian Doloreses.

In "Lolita", Dolores Haze is called at various times Dolly, Lo, Lola, and Lolita. I think those are the full gamut of nickname possibilities.

I have the impression that most people where I live think of it as either Lolita-esque or old/ugly/sad, BUT I think it's a sweet-sounding Spanish name (it also sorta reminds me of 19th Century lit).
It might be cool to meet a young Dolores, especially since it'd be so unexpected.I like Dolores Petra more than Dolores Cosette.
Possible NNs (some of them are a stretch, I admit): Dores, Dora, Della, Dee, Didi, Dido, Dorit, Doris, Lola, Lore, Lourdes, Lorenz, Inez, Raj, Raz, Roz.I think I like Dolores NN Dores, Dora, Lola, or Roz best.Dolores Perdita
Dolores Doveva
Dolores Veronica
Dolores Raziela
Dolores Viviana
Dolores Rosemary
Dolores Consuelo
Dolores Yolanda
Dolores Althea
Dolores Phoebe
Dolores Angelica
Dolores Rafaela

It wasn’t really on my radar until a cousin named his daughter Dolores 4 years ago. Seeing it used on someone I love I’ve been liking it more and more. Still not a name I’d use, but great for a relative. We don’t use any nicknames for it, but how about Lola, Lolly, Doris, Resy?
LOL at Dolores Petra, my Dolores has a cousin named Petra.Dolores Mara, Dolores Poppy, Dolores Gwen, Dolores Sabine, Dolores Rahela, Dolores Emma.

Sorry, I've never really liked it. It's so... dolorous. :P Also there's that Seinfeld episode with the woman whose "name rhymes with part of the female anatomy." So yeah, things that rhyme with Dolores... :/But, just talking hypothetically, there is an elegance about it. Dolores Petra is very nice.

I had totally forgotten that Seinfeld episode. I had heard about it before though. Something to consider for sure lol

It took me way too long to work out what part of the female anatomy because it doesn't rhyme in my accent! lol

...it doesn't rhyme the way I say them either...

lolHave you seen that Seinfeld episode, though? It takes them the whole time to figure out what her name must be. Mulva? Hest? hehehe

I think it's an okay name but I can really only see it on adults
